Year 6 Explore Goodnight Mister Tom
This term, Year 6 have been enjoying a rich and engaging English unit based on the novel Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian. Through this powerful story, learners have explored themes of friendship, resilience, kindness and the impact of evacuation during World War II.
The learners began by developing their understanding of the historical context, learning about life in Britain during the war and what it was like for children who were evacuated from cities to the countryside. This helped them to empathise with the characters and deepen their understanding of the novel.
